The Session is responsible for the mission and governance of the congregation, and is comprised of the pastor and seven active elders. It has responsibility for various duties, including receiving members, providing for worship and nurture of the membership, and relationships with governing bodies in the denomination and beyond to ecumenical and global relationships. The Session is charged with leading the congregation in ministries of personal and social healing and reconciliation, and to continually discover what God is doing in the world ,and to plan for change, renewal, and reformation under the Word of God. Elders are elected for a period of three years and may serve for no more than six consecutive years in order that power is not invested in any one person or group of people. Election of the elders by the congregation is done on a staggered basis so that there is continuity in leadership as well. The government of the Presbyterian Church requires that there be diversity in the leadership of the church, so that all of God’s people are represented on Session. Elders of the church are “persons of good repute, full of Spirit and of wisdom” (Acts 6:3). They are people who are esteemed by the community and deeply and sincerely spiritual, and practical in judgment. Each elder serves as chair or liaison to one of the standing committees: Administration, Mission, Outreach, Personnel, and Spiritual Enrichment.

Deacons
The Board of Deacons is a ministry of compassion. They are, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith. They shall assume other duties as delegated to them by session…leading the people in worship through prayers of intercession, reading the Scriptures, and assisting with the Lord’s Supper. The deacons are elected by the congregation on a three year rotating basis and may not serve more than six consecutive years. Those elected to the office of deacon are persons of spiritual character, honest repute, of exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies, and sound judgment (Book of Order G-6.0402).
